Mosquitoes in Your Back Yard
If it holds water, it can breed mosquitoes!
Properly maintain rain barrels! If there is no proper coverage, mosquitoes WILL enter and lay their eggs, producing hundreds to thousands of mosquitoes.
If left uncovered, something like this forgotten, neglected boat behind a garage will essentially create a pond with no other predators to keep the mosquito larvae under control, making a large habitat for nothing BUT mosquitoes!
Something as simple as storing a wheelbarrow upside down will eliminate a significant habitat for breeding mosquitoes.
Not properly cleaning gutters will allow the leaves to break down into a soil, which will block water from exiting, pooling up long enough to create a mosquito habitat. Seeing growing plants popping out from the gutters is a sign that the gutters have been neglected far too long.
An improperly maintained swimming pool are huge habitats for mosquitoes. Though it is necessary to cover an unused pool with a tarp, improper usage will end up holding water of its own.
Even ornamental can breed mosquitoes. If there are no fish or otherwise insufficient predators, there is nothing stopping mosquitoes from calling it their home. Adding a water pump to keep a steady flow can also make it difficult to impossible for mosquitoes to live in.
Mosquitoes in search of blood will work tirelessly to enter their target's habitat. Even small holes/tears in a screen will be found by mosquitoes. Please check and repair!
Properly seal gaps around windows. This window withn air conditioning unit may have openings for mosquitoes to enter. The area between the open windows will be an easy entrance point.
